Raising awareness for solar safety across Victoria
Background
Victoria has seen a solar panel boom, with more than 655,000 households now having solar systems installed.
While the future is bright with more affordable electricity, there is now a need for education about solar maintenance. When Energy Safe Victoria invited us to pitch on this project, we knew we could help create change.

Challenge
Solar is relatively new for many Victorians, and homeowners aren’t aware that when a system is over 2 years old, there’s an increased risk of electrical faults and house fires.
But how do we inform them of the risk without creating fear? The last thing we wanted was to slow down the adoption of solar energy. Like a sparky walking on the roof, this was a delicate balancing act.

Solution
We gave homeowners a choice. Would they rather make a phone call to an electrician or risk a house fire? We encouraged them to make the safe call. And our message came from an expert – a real electrician.
Rather than showcasing a fire-ravaged house, we showed how simple getting a solar service is, making it an easy decision for homeowners.
The language took CALD audiences into account, so it could easily be translated into other languages. The multi-channel campaign was created for print, social, digital, OOH and TV.
We were proud to win the pitch. But even prouder to help keep Victorians safe.
